50 First Dates – #41 to #50

•July 9, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Woot! And now for the grand finale… just think if you did one of these a day then you would have 50 straight days of dates. So don’t say we aren’t out there trying to help you out. It is fun to watch all the slurls getting hammered on the outgoing links. I am glad to see a lot of you are making use of this list.

With this last installment, I would welcome any feedback with regards to favorite places that you have found either through this list or even elsewhere. I am always up for new spots, or would love to hear your favorite site from this list. If there are any you visited and didn’t like, I would welcome that as well along with why you didn’t enjoy it.

#41 Paradise Falls

If your idea of a romantic spot to dance is in front of an entire mountain of waterfalls, then this is the spot for you. There are literally waterfalls everywhere and they are gorgeous. There are 4 sims worth of interesting terrain and artwork to explore, but nothing beats the waterfall ballroom right at the entrance.

#42 The FAC

Another fun clubbing option is The FAC which has one of the best urban club builds in SL. You will have to check the listings for times, and most of the best DJ’s are on during European time zones, but this is still a must see club. I have attended a couple of events here and really enjoyed the mix of house and dance music that the DJ’s layered in.

#43 Love Poetry Path

I came across this place doing research for this post. It is pretty cheesy, but was an interesting idea that has a few fun interactions. It basically has stations that take you through the stages of a relationship from first meeting all the way through to retiring together as a couple at the end of your years. Each station has a poem, and some sort of interactive experience. I don’t want to spoil it, because it would ruin the experience, but it is a fun thing to do (probably not as a first date option, but more as an option with somebody you have been with for a while.) If you take it half ways serious, then you will most definitely score some “awwww” points if nothing else.

#44 Tringo

Jell and I first met playing tringo, and continue to play together to this day so it has a special place in our lives for us. If you are into simple puzzle games, and have a competitive streak then you should try Tringo because it is a fun way to hang with your partner. Many places have dancing/cuddle options which you can try out while you play. If you want to find a game, try joining the group Tringo 2.0 Addicts because most of the major players spam in that group when a game is starting. (Note that I waited to take this pic until I had overtaken Jell… lol.)

#45 Transylvania

You can role play as a vamp, but you can also just enjoy the lush build of Transylvania. They have a great club there which has some great live performers, a museum which takes you through the history of vampires in television and film, but my favorite spot is the huge gothic mansion. I love the plush textures, and if you go exploring you will find many pose balls hidden throughout the rooms and in all sorts of combinations.

#46 Le Zoo

I was kind of sad to see that my old favorite zoo closed (Imagination Breeding Zoo), but luckily there are other options. Le Zoo is best known for its shopping, but it offers a great penguin exhibit along with quite a few other animals. You can also kill time checking out the playground equipment.

#47 Venice, Italy

You can enjoy touring the city of canals (minus the smell) by foot, balloon, or gondola. It is a great build which feels very true to the actual Venice, Italy.

#48 Midsomer Isle

If you like Acropolis, Apollo, or Gardens of Bliss then this is another build in that vein. It is loaded with beautiful scenery throughout and many couples options and dances set up. There is a ballroom overlooking the ocean, and many paths to explore. You can typically find out of the way snuggle spots that feel secluded.

#49 Phoenix Isle

A nice scenic spot for some dancing in this residential sim.

#50 Anywhere you drop a pose ball!

As a parting message, I urge each of you to be on the constant lookout for anywhere that allows build where you can drop some dance balls. For this pic, I dropped a slow dance V7 on the top of a building in Midnight City. Just watch out for the auto return which is set at 5 minutes, and you can have a breathtaking dance all to yourself with a beautiful skyline backdrop. Basically, BE CREATIVE people! Also, if you are a sim owner with some gorgeous builds, then please allow build/rezzing for just this purpose. If you set the autoreturn then you can eliminate most of the issues, except for the most evil intentioned grievers.

And that’s all folks, happy dating out there, and I hope you enjoyed the series.

50 First Dates – #31 to #40

•July 7, 2008 • 1 Comment

Alrighty peeps, I am back from vaca and one step closer to finishing out the 50 first dates project with this installment.

This 50 first dates series has generated a lot of fun foreign links in Russian, Spanish, Portugese, and a few I can’t even guess at… lol. I really love the free translators out there though, so I might have to throw a post together after I finish up with the variations I have seen as read through various translators. They crack *me* up anyway.

I still have several favorite spots in this list, so I have kept the quality from dropping off, but I must admit I am running low on known places, and I will have to do a little exploring to finish out the last ten.

#31 Acropolis Gardens

Obviously an oldie but a goodie. They have more guided couples tours than any other place I can think of. You can walk together hand in hand, take a balloon ride, or even board a spaceship. Not to mention, you could actually *walk yourself* around the beautifully landscaped sim. The only downside to this location is that it is very popular, which means lots of people, and you are subject to chat spam from all the noobs on location trying to get in each other’s pants faster than you can say Hai der!

#32 Virtual Starry Night – Van Gogh Exhibition

If you haven’t checked out this exhibit, then you have really been missing out. Someone had the awesome idea of taking some of Van Gogh’s more famous works, and making them 3-dimensional living recreations. The sim is packed with educational info about Van Gogh and his many works, but the real fun comes in being able to step into his paintings and see life through his eyes.

#33 Africa

Africa is a fun sim to explore by foot, but the highlight is riding the inner tubes through the river and waterfall areas. There is a dance spot as well, and many different pose balls sprinkled throughout the build to provide for photo ops.

#34 Joy Isle

This was a new one for me that I picked up from a comment in the SL forums where someone was discussing this 50 first date posting. It is your typical setup with many couple pose ball options set amongst some scenic locations, so is worth the trip out to explore and look around. You can tell I was starting to crank these out because I didn’t wait for my shirt to rez… lol.

#35 TCH Rock Climbing and Sky Diving

Rock climbing is a relatively new sport in SL, but still makes for a fun diversion. Basically you can race against another opponent on jumping from pose ball to pose ball as you make your way up the wall. If you jump to an unrealistic next foothold, then you will end up crashing back down and being disqualified. You can also strap on your parachute and try sky diving from this same location. There are a variety of freebie and more advanced chutes you can wear.

#36 AKK Horse Ranch Island

Obviously you have to have a horse to go horseback riding, but once you shell out the 1500L’s or so to get a good one, then you have opened up many new areas for horseback riding. One of the main suppliers of quality horses is the AKK Ranch, and they also provide a lot of scenic trails that span their sim to let you play out your inner cowboy/cowgirl fantasies.

#37 Sweethearts Jazz Club

Thanks to Arcadian for pointing me to this great little jazz club by the prior owners of Phat Cats. Be sure you go down to the lower level, because that is where all the atmosphere is away from the vendors you see upon teleporting in. There are also scenic pose balls positioned around the perimeter of the dance floor in the landscaped areas.

#38 The Ginsberg ARTS center

Another great art museum that also includes a special erotic photography exhibit of both RL and SL nudes, as well as a planetarium in addition to several stories worth of art exhibition space.

#39 September Rain – Rainforest

Looking for an amazing spot to slow dance under a waterfall in the rain on a rotating lily pad? Then this is the spot for you. There are also 5 “hidden caves” and treehouse rentals if the first date progresses quickly into something more. 😉

#40 Junkyard Blues Club

Last for this round, but DEFINITELY not least, I absolutely love this build. I enjoy when someone does something different than the ordinary, and for this build you can either dance on the standard dance floor to some great blues music, or you can venture out into the build and find all sorts of hidden pose balls that let you make out in the back of a pickup truck up on blocks, jump on the resolution balls in a phone booth, or make sweet suckling sow love in any of a numerous locations in and around the trailer park. You have to see it to appreciate it, but if pink flamingos and christmas lights up year round make you chuckle, then you will love the attention to detail of this build.

50 First Dates – # 21 to #30

•July 2, 2008 • 6 Comments

Why oh why couldn’t that movie have been called 35 first dates… lol.

So here’s the deal, I am providing one more installment for tonight, then I am considering myself officially on vaca til after I get back from blowing shit up for the holidays which will be early next week (providing I can still type if I am missing a finger or two of course.)

Also, per another request, I made the pictures a little bigger this go around, although I will tell you that I was in and out of these spots in like 2 minutes flat, so I didn’t spend a lot of time setting up cool “artistic” shots. The point is to give a visual flavor to go along with the description, and to give Jell yet another reason for a costume change… as if she needed one.

#21 Paradise Blanket

Every guy should own a paradise blanket. It is like having a date in a box, where you can instantly rez at various altitudes any of a number of prepared scenic backdrops. You typically have to have 100 – 200 prims available for the sets. The beauty of these things is that if you plan ahead, you can go position dancing, sex, and/or cuddle balls in all the right spots to take an average backdrop and make it a role play heaven! The balls will still be right where you left them (provided you take the blanket back up to that same elevation). I linked here the free paradise blanket that can be found in Midnight Reflections, which is a great place to go try out all the various options, and then GO BUY ONE! I can’t even begin to describe the fun you can have with the office, hotel, beach, or even dungeon themed sets.

#22 Tunnel of Light

Another great addition by the Rezzable team, where you can take a 6.5 minute ride in a teacup through a visually captivating light show which was designed to showcase some of the effects in the Windlight viewer rollout. There is a new neon club addition, which was fun to look at, but would seriously hurt my head if I stayed for more than 10 minutes at a time.

#23 Dragon Moon Resort

Although we couldn’t track down the couple inner tubes which used to be a fav, this resort still provides lots of fun options for a date. You can hang out on the beach, ride one of the free provided jet skis, explore the island, go ice skating, and even snorkel all in the same great sim. Also feel free to bust out your dragon avi, because you are likely to see quite a few dragons carousing around.

#24 Castle Wars!

This one is always one of our personal fav’s, from the mind of RacerX. Basically you rez a catapult and each try to take out the other person(‘s) castle. Once all the pieces of your castle are taken out, you are out of the game. Very fun to play!

#25 Carnival of Doom

If you are just a little bit sick and or twisted and enjoy figuring out how many ways you can kill yourself off at an old abandoned amusement park, then this is a great date option! This one is actually one of my favorite sims, and inspired one of our machinima projects which you can view here if you are interested.

#26 Maximillion Kleene

I wasn’t able to slurl this one, since Max performs at a variety of places all across the grid, but all you have to do is search out his name under the event listings for live performers. There are a variety of really good live acts out there to choose from (although I recommend scouting out the band/performer at least once before inviting a date,) but Max is a great one, and comes with my personal stamp of approval.

#27 Heavenly Rose Garden

This particular one does not come highly recommended, but will do if you are in a bind (like say trying to come up with 50 first date locations.) This sim is basically a conglomeration of a bunch of different little scenes with pose balls set up for pictures. You might have a waterfall right next to a turkish tent, but as long as you work your camera angles you can still get some good shots with this sim, and if you are still relatively noobish be sort of impressed… lol. kk moving on.

#28 Butterfly Garden at Blue Note Jazz Club

The Blue Note Jazz Club is a pretty good jazz club, but one of the benefits they have is that they have a very nicely decorated garden area next to the club, which provides a nice scenic place to take a date. In particular, they have this little butterfly garden area set up with a slow dance ball in it to make for a scenic backdrop.

#29 Midnight Reflections

Not only does Midnight Reflections provide several free Paradise Blankets, but you can also explore the grounds for many scenic spots to take a date. You really can’t ever go wrong on a Complete Me pillow from Pillow Talk by Sandy Clymer, but there are also caves you can explore with running water, and treehouses complete with sex gen rugs in many of them.

#30 Chi

Sure we know the owners of this sim quite well, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most beautiful sims in SL. You can do Tai Chi, surf, or just explore the beautiful landscape surrounding the active volcano. Just whatever you do, keep an eye on that llama!

50 First Dates – #11 to #20

•July 1, 2008 • Leave a Comment

A couple of quick housekeeping items:

1) Yes I am posting this on both Freestate and AWNM, because it is a lot of work, and I figured I would provide it for the largest audience as possible. I won’t do that very often, but I reserve the right to do it at times, so I apologize if you follow both blogs for the repeat.

2) I did link the title of each pic with a slurl so you can tp directly to the location to try it out. It sort of blends into the overall color scheme, and I did get a question about slurls.

3) I promised to try to do 10 a day, so that is still the plan but I will be on vacation from Friday through Sunday this week, so that might get in the way, but you just have to deal! 🙂

Alrighty then as promised here is round two of the 50 first dates exercise.

#11 Innisfree Romantic Park

This is actually a great park with a pool, dancing area, and lots of special couple sit options that are scattered throughout the build. It is very scenic and has trails that you can skate or bike to go along with the fun atmosphere.

#12 Art in the Park

This one is…. drumroll please…. art in the park. duh! lol You can roam the sidewalks and see different exhibits by various artists. I think that many of the pieces are for sale, including a few limited editions. Not the best art I have seen in SL, but is still a fun diversion, and provides a great way to discuss what you like/don’t like about various pieces.

#13 Avilion Courtyard Area

If you go to Avilion and only spend time in the ballroom, then you are missing out on some great places to hang out. This is one of them, which is around the castle to the side just beyond the hedge maze. (The hedge maze itself might get its own slot, if I have trouble towards the end hitting 50.. haha!) There are several scenic dancing spots around the campfire or in the gazebo overlooking the waterfalls. Also, be sure to have your particles on so you can enjoy the prettiful light show.

#14 Scoutlounge Beach Club

If you are in the mood for a club experience, why not combine it with a beautiful beachfront build (my pic doesn’t do it justice). The Scoutlounge plays some great house music, but you will want to check the event listings, because most of the shows are geared around European time zones. Even if there is no event going, the stream is usually pretty good, and it provides a nice spot to kick back and relax.

#15 La Reve

A beautifully landscaped sim with incredible sculptures and lighting effects. Where else can you sail around some incredible visuals on a bed? Unfortunately the bed isn’t sex gen, and you can’t sit in a couple’s cuddle position, but it is still a great place to take a date and go explore.

#16 Moana’Ina Beach @ Weather Island

Surf’s up with some MONSTER waves at this great sim sponsored by the Weather Channel. There are free surf boards you can use, and lots of waves to start working on your skills. Before long you can join the SLSA and start entering some real surfing competitions.

#17 Apollo Gardens

Unless you are brand new to SL, I would find it hard to believe that you haven’t been to Apollo Gardens at some point, as it is one of the oldest most beautifully landscaped sims. It provides a lot of room to go exploring, as well as many couple sits throughout the park. The one downside to this place, is that it IS so well known, that almost every time I go here (including the 5 minutes to take this pic) someone ends up tp’ing in right on top of you because they logged out in your spot. So keep in mind that there is a good chance of a cock block at any point when using this sim.

#18 VRR Virtual Reality Room

I was tempted to link to Wrath’s personal one, but thought that might get ME reported by HIM, and then blog wars, and all kinds of in-fighting and battles. Well okay, I really was too lazy to climb all those trees to find the link. Anyways, this is an awesome fun thing to do where you can sit in a 360 degree environment and pick RL scenic pictures to surround yourself with. I think this is really fun, and you can rez dance balls into the center of it, which makes for some nice pics and a little different take on an otherwise ordinary dancing experience – throw in a personal music stream and your love’s favorite song, and SCORE! 🙂

#19 ING Renault F1 Go-carts

This is a really fun place to ride go-carts, and to learn more about F1 racing. I will warn you though, that it DOES require you to wear a helmet to race, and it DOES take off your hair, so you are both baldies under those helmets. You can however custom design your own helmet with your personal design and color scheme which is kinda fun (but she will still bitch that it takes her hair off, so best not to do as a first date, but maybe one down the road after you have already won her over.)

#20 Avilion Waterfall Skyboxes

Yet another quiet little spot taken from the Avilion sim with the castle in the distance. On the other side of the river, across from the dancing gazebo, there are actually skyboxes built high up into the waterfalls, which you can teleport up to from the wooden walkway below. They even show when they are occupied, so it should cut down on people dropping in on you. Typically they each have a dance ball, and some cuddle options. They make for a great place for those long quiet talks that go deep into the night.

50 First Dates

•June 30, 2008 • 5 Comments

Alright, so I know it is an old movie, but I watched it for the first time this past weekend with Jell, and it gave me an idea for a blog post. If you know me very well, then you know I kinda like lists… lol. In fact, I like to set a target for myself and see if I can hit it, so the goal for this exercise is to provide 50 first date (or anytime date) places that are fun to take your partner.

It is proving to be a little bigger of a challenge than I had thought at first, because I was planning on relying heavily on my patented Landmark folder that had all sort of Romantic hot spots neatly organized into categories such as scenic, artsy, fun, dancing, etc… I guess I am getting kinda old, and things change very quickly in SL, such that I am only hitting about a 50% success rate with the landmarks I am picking. We have been having a lot of reminiscing discussions about things like… remember that cool tango club in Valentine with the awesome roses and lighting where we used to go dancing a lot? Yeah, well it is now a porn club, so it has sort of lost a little of its luster for me… lol. However, if you do wanna go in, we could at least look around. *wink*

So anyways, my plan is to deliver ten a day, which I will stick to unless I find myself having to get very creative by the end of it. I will hit 50 though… cuz I hate to miss a goal!

These are not in any particular order, because I am too lazy to rank them… so you will just have to hit them all to determine which you like the best. 🙂

#1 Gardens of Bliss Balloon Ride

This is a scenic fairly lengthy tour of a beautifully landscaped sim by hot air balloon. The ride gives you lots of time for discussion and admiring the view. There are also tons of paths to explore and hike on down below so should be good for several hours of fun.

#2 Phat Cats

I still miss the old Phat Cats before they had their own sim with all the retail crap lagging up the place, but at the end of the day it is still a great place to take a date. The jazz music is great, and other than having to hike through retail hell to get there, the ballroom is still a visually gorgeous setting for a date.

#3 Avilion Ball Room

The Avilion Ballroom is still my absolute favorite place to take a date. You really can’t beat the atmosphere as they pump out the love songs, and you are caught up in the feeling of being in a castle with that highly reflective floor. Use this one with caution, because you might get caught up in the moment and end up proposing, or at the minimum she might walk away preggers.

#4 Prim Hearts Amusement Park

All of your favorite amusement park rides are available for your riding pleasure. There are interactive games like go carts, bumper boats, or submarine battles you can do, as well as just enjoy the roller coaster, ferris wheel, log float ride, or various other quick spinning rides which are sure to get you motion sick, unless you fix those camera controls.

#5 The Big Easy

I really like this recreation of some of the key landmarks from New Orleans. They have a beautifully recreated Cathedral, Mardi Gras floats, small hole in the wall bars, and beautifully landscaped gardens to check out. Is a great sim to explore and talk. (They also have a lot of the wedding poses set up, so be careful which balls you jump on, or you might get more than you bargained for. 🙂 )

#6 The Second Louvre

If you enjoy attending art museums and exhibitions, then the Second Louvre is an awesome build, with 3 levels of artwork which incorporates both RL and SL art into one space. You can see photography and prints from RL, right alongside people experimenting with lighting and sculpties. It is a lot to look at in one setting, but makes for a great place to hang out for as long as your interest holds.

#7 Roll-a-rama Roller Skating Rink

If rollerskating is your thing, then be sure to check out the Roll-a-rama skating rink. This is a fun place, complete with rotating lights, and colored floor which is sure to *ahem* set the mood, well for the hokey pokey at least. You will need your own animations for a couples skate, but these can be picked up at various vendors.

#8 SS Galaxy Ballroom

The SS Galaxy is actually made up of 3 complete sims, and you can do everything from hang out at the pool, rent a room, shop, or even try skeet shooting. Literally anything you can do on an RL cruise, you can probably attempt on the SS Galaxy. The glass domed ballroom though is an excellent place to take your date dancing and is beautiful under the stars on midnight setting.

#9 Parrot Island

I was a little disappointed that Parrot Island doesn’t provide the free jet skis anymore, which were one of my favorites, but it is still a nice relaxing beach themed sim. You can ride the couples swan if you are REALLY bored, but overall it is a great place with some couples animations to just relax and enjoy the water.

#10 Wolf Mountain Ski Resort

If your persuasions are a little more to the scenic snow variety, then be sure to check out Wolf Mountain Ski resort. Unfortunately the sled is only one person, but still a fun way to go down the slopes. You can however mount up your skis and hit the slopes for some fun rides down, and then of course take the long ride up on the ski lift.

PSA#1 Taco Bell Big Box Meal Warnings

•June 26, 2008 • 1 Comment

Taco Bell worked very hard to cover all the bases on their new Big Box Meal combos. The box warns you that “Objects in box are as large as they appear.” They provide a diagram and information on how to correctly lift heavy objects to avoid any personal injury. Unfortunately all these warnings still result in a big FAIL!!

Because, they totally forgot to warn you to NOT engage in rough sweaty banging the headboard sex for at least 2 hours after consuming the components of the box, or you WILL PAY DEARLY!! About an hour in after the second or third round, when you are just gaining full momentum, all of a sudden your guts will twist and contort in such a painful pattern, that it feels like your intestines are being ripped out your nose… and you might hafta make a quick beeline for the bathroom. I am just saying…. DON’T try this at home!! If Queso is coming over, then keep Queso junior in your pants!! This PSA was brought to you by your friends at AWNM.

What the heck is he doing??

•June 26, 2008 • 5 Comments

Okay, so what the heck has Hawks been doing lately?? Cuz I sure don’t see him in SL anymore these days, and these AWNM posts are becoming less frequent.

1) I actually have still been blogging… over on my other blog that Jell and I run together called Freestateofmind. Her and I have blogged together for quite some time, but this blog is a fairly new one. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it out. I tend to do more personal type things over there and RL slips into the mix a little bit more.

2) I have been playing WoW which is sort of our new game of choice. I now totally forgive all those friends out there that I chastised supremely when they up and bailed on SL for an extended period of time to go play WoW… haha. I totally get it now.

3) Jell has gotten me totally hooked on Red Vs Blue, to the point that I am going back through the first four seasons to get caught up on the plot line for where it is at. It is kinda funny to me that she is so into it, and doesn’t like to play Halo, but as I watch it more and more, I can see where people fall for it anyways.

4) I have discovered a new band that is totally cracking me up, called Ludo out of St Louis, Missouri. If you have my particular sense of humor, then you HAVE to watch this video. The igloo thing gets a little long for a while, but I was cracking up at his expressions and the way they filmed it… but OMG, the song they sing is freaking awesome! These guys have a shitload of videos out on Youtube and so far I have been laughing my ass off at about 85% of them.
